Claims to Fame

Every town, village, unincorporated hamlet, road, hill, hole, and hall has one. Sometimes, though, they're a bit of a stretch. I read a pamphlet on a ferryboat on Lake Chelan which was unintentionally absurd. The gist:

"Lake Chelan is the DEEPEST GORGE IN THE WORLD, except for some others, and only if you start from top of the highest nearby mountain."

Personally, I'm fonder of the neighboring town of Oakland's claims to fame: onetime turkey *and* prune capital of the world.
