New York City is known for its pizza, which is strange as Chicago has much better pizza. The other notable food I can think of is New York Cheesecake. Although here, you can get nearly any type of food.

Back in Texas, we had some interesting tasty things that I haven't seen elsewhere. About two years ago, we went back to Texas to attend a wedding. I had a list of things to eat when I was there.

Bob's jalapeno potato chips. Yummy.

DoubleDave's Pizzaworks -- Peproni rolls. You may have seen the inferior Hot Pockets pepperoni and cheese things. Other substandard brands might advertise them as "pizza rolls" or some such.

Layne's (over on Eastgate, in College Station) has the best dipping sauce for chicken bits ever.

Outside of Texas, chicken-fried steak is something I can only find at Chili's, a restaurant chain in North America. There, they called it "country fried steak". The last time we ordered it, we called it "chicken-fried steak" and the waitress wanted to know if we wanted chicken or steak.

Chicken-fried steak is thin top round steak, breaded and fried. It's served with white gravy (with cracked black peppercorns) and mashed potatoes, decorations (read: a veggie that you're really not supposed to eat) on the side. The best I've had was at Bullwinkle's over in the Culpepper Plaza, if you get over to Aggieland.

There's also Tom's BBQ in Bryan/College Station, but that's highly overrated. I'd go about two blocks towards Bryan on College Main and stop at the BBQ place on your right, in the brick building (I can't remember the name). Much better barbecue.

The above are in Bryan/College Station. Austin, TX is home to Schlotzsky's, the makers of the best deli sandwich known to Mankind. The sandwich (The Original) was created after the owner had a muffaletta sandwich in Louisiana and tried to recreate it back in Texas. What he created wasn't a muff, but it was even better.

Now he's rich.
