Continuing with the latter way of measuring, since it's easier, here are the latest numbers: 9614464 bytes, 490 locations (19621 per location). 5509813 of those bytes are in-game descriptive text (975317 words) -- some of the rest is other text such as option text and item names, but most is AGLL code, tabs, newlines, and such.

Coincidentally, a narrative transcript of the game so far used up 5591356 bytes, about the same amount -- none of the "area description" text was written, but inevitably there was a lot of duplication in the "action description" text, just about canceling it the difference. This transcript, about a million words long, would have been 1,990 pages long if printed out. So be prepared for a lot of reading!

Other tabulations, just for fun: 83482 description-setting commands, 78687 variable/item-setting commands, 109234 conditionals, 1447 function calls, 8163 options, 424 items, 528 global variables used (sorry to have to stretch the engine limits again, Sam).

I think I will continue to do updates, even though it might not be once a month like I was doing before. The latest state of things: I've been doing more planning relative to coding lately, so as I finish up with that the pace should pick up again. I've actually been stuck on this stage of the game for a very long time, instead working on parts before and after; I guess it's because I'm being too perfectionistic about it and putting off writing parts until I've thought it through long enough to be sure they'll be as good as possible. The overall structure of this stage of the game is too complicated for me to contemplate all at once, so it feels like I'm planning blindfolded sometimes. But it will all work out, I think.

Hopefully I will reach 10 megabytes (the big 8-digit milestone) within 2 months. Maybe that will be the next update.
