As in remembering the overall sequence of events in the plot? I plan to have an in-game option to review a summary of the game's important plot up to how far you've reached. That seems like the best I could reasonably do.

It hasn't become too complex so far, and I expect that what's left will be more downhill than up, so there shouldn't be a problem of complexity but rather thoroughness in wrapping up all the little details that are incomplete along the way.
If you mean complex for the *player*, then I don't know. I haven't felt the need to keep things less complex for the player's benefit. I have been trying to make the game's difficulty primarily due to its scope and complexity as opposed to obscurity (such as making clues hard to find), so perhaps it will be seen as overly complex.
I can think of just one area where everyone will need to make a map, even people who didn't need maps for the sandstone caverns in POAT. Probably, overall, the number of maps you'll make will be somewhat less than the number you'd project from game size proportions. I.e., if SOAT ends up being 20 times as large as POAT, maybe you'll need 10 times as many maps. That's mainly due to locations being more detailed or having locations being reused for other purposes later in the game.
> Also, will AGL revise their ratings when it's released, because it's got to be harder than POA, which currently occupies the highest possible position.
I'm not sure. We'll deal with that when the time comes, I suppose.
