Hm. New car never did it for me. You know what *really* smells good? New bassoon. No, really. The fresh wood, the varnish... when my high school got a new one (a Fox 201, to be specific), people would look at me funny, because I'd always spend a few moments taking in the aroma before I put the instrument together. It smelled wonderful!

Other smells I love:

Old books.... the kind that used to be often read but have hardly been opened in the past 20 years.

For that matter, new books aren't bad either.

Gasoline. I always stand outside the car when people are filling up their tanks. So I'm weird.

Loreena McKennitt liner notes. I remain convinced that her liner notes smell different than the ones in other CDs. Must be something about the paper.

Sandalwood. I always keep sandalwood incense around (even though I can't burn it in my dorm).

Jasmine. Some jasmine incense, too. And it flowers well in this area; a friend has it running up the outside wall of his house. Mmm...

Perfume - Byblos and Sparkling White Diamonds. Nice clean smells, Byblos a little heavier. I liked it since the first time I smelled it in a department store when I was 10 (even though at the time I exclusively wore Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth cologne...) and was never able to find it until my mother gave me a bottle. :-)

Coffee. I don't like drinking it all that much, but the smell... mmm.

Fresh bread. Tastes and smells best when it's still hot enough to burn your tongue.

Newly cut grass. Which is why I never minded cutting the lawn, even with the ancient manual mower.

So, what are everyone else's favorite smells?
