As far as I'm concerned, C&H is the best comic strip of all time. It may not be the funniest of all time (it sure could be hilarious though), but its one of the few strips that has a lot of heart. Bill Watterson was great at really capturing what it was like to be a kid. I grew up reading them, and I really understood Calvin's world. Who hasn't thought of school as a dank alien dungeon?

Also, unlike many other modern strips, C&H was drawn really well. Granted, Calvin's fairly simplistic, but look at his facial expressions sometime. There's an incredible range there. Or look at any of the landscapes and backgrounds. Top-notch art there. I don't know how many of you have read the 10th Anniversary (sp) Book, but Watterson's commentary about his art (particularly the mess behind the Sunday strips) is very interesting.

I hate Cathy. Every day it is so not funny that it just gets on my nerves. It's basically five scenarios:

a. Cathy is fat
b. Cathy is lazy
c. Cathy is shopping
d. Cathy is having love life trouble
e. Cathy's mom is harrassing her about one of the above problems

Occasionally it makes me laugh, but rarely. I do like Electra though. As for Dilbert, hands down the funniest strip out there right now. Scott Adams goes from the mundane to the very bizzare which makes me happy, and the man has a very sarcastic, cynical wit. Actually, after I read The Dilbert Future I decided that Scott Adams being Scott Adams is a lot funnier than Scott Adams writing Dilbert. However, I do think he's a bit similar to Dave Barry, but that's fine by me.

Other good (current) strips: Non Sequitur, Fox Trot and Zits.

There are a ton of really bad strips, but to me the worst offenders are: The Family Circus, Beetle Bailey (oh look, Beetle's sleeping! har har!), Marmaduke and Dennis the Menace.

There are a lot of mediocre ones out there as well. My paper prints two pages a day (more on Sundays), but I could probably be happy with 3/4 of a page....
