M & M's

I'm sitting here munching a pack of M&M's, and I suddenly remembered the time last year when I bought a pack of M&M's from the vending machine at our office, and read the following blurb on the plastic wrapper:

"The official candy of the new millennium."

Obvious questions arise, such as, how does one go about securing the rights to being the official candy of an entire millennium? To what party does one apply for that privilege, and what gives them the authority to grant it? Etc., etc., etc.

A friend of mine wittily suggested that M&M's ran the same campaign at the turn of the last millennium, except that their name at the time was simply, "M's". By extension, they'll have to change the name once again for the next millennium, to "M&M&M's".

Will Mars candy bars be heralded as "the official candy of the solar system"? Or will the company aim even higher, and position Milky Way as "the official candy of the universe"? How will the advertising campaign be made accessible to alien markets in other star systems? Is there a subliminal message ("I grok Milky Way") hidden in the code for SETI@Home?

These are all important issues, which should be meticulously researched by people with nothing better to do than hang out on the Message Forum during their day at the office.
