My memories of my baptism are still clear,
even though it took place 20 years ago. I was
seven years old, and had just accepted Christ
a month or so before. At the time, we (my
family) were members of a little Southern
Baptist church in Charlotte, NC. I remember
going forward after the service-- I think it was
the evening service, to be specific --to tell the
pastor that I'd asked Jesus into my heart and
wanted to be baptized.

Funny what strange things you remember and
associate with significant events that took
place when you were a child. The most vivid
memory I have of that moment is the pastor
bending down so I could whisper in his ear,
and noticing how red his ears were. Isn't that
silly?

I've learned a lot about what baptism means
since my own experience. As a child I only had
a basic understanding of the "whys and
wherefores" of it, but I knew that I was doing it
because it's what God wanted. In some ways I
envy your greater understanding of what you
are taking part in, yet I do not have any regrets
about how God worked events out in my own
life.
