While I'm not certain on the issue of baptism (Sam's post has given me a new perspective on the topic that I hadn't really thought much about), I do not believe that children are denied salvation because they can't understand it. I think they're pretty much automatically granted salvation until they reach a point in their lives where they can understand the significance of it and can make a conscious choice. I don't know if there's Biblical support for this, but I can't think of any other way it would happen, because two main personality traits of God are justice and mercy, and sentencing a three-year-old to Hell because he couldn't understand the concepts of grace and sin is neither just nor merciful. > > -Eric Sleator > Fri 17 May A.D. 2002
I've always thought and believed that babies who could not understand or make a decision to believe yet would go to heaven, but whenever I queried my mother about it, she instead warned me not to forget about teaching my children about Christianity and the whole rigmarole(sound advice I think), but seemed to keep dodging my original question to her: "Would babies who cannot understand how to believe in Christ yet go to heaven or hell?"
However, she does seem to agree that these babies would go to heaven(it's rather difficult to find support for either belief in the Bible though). What do you think?
