I did hear a very good point on this subject: the hebrew word for "day" (can't remember what it is at this particular moment) is the same as the word for "unit of time of indeterminate length." In other words, it's just the translation of the bible that is at fault, not the scientific vs theological dispite.

The idea that I personally believe is based on this, but I have heard another one, which is that if God wanted to make the universe in six days, he could easily have done so, although the evidence points to it having been made over a very long time. Make up your own mind...
