Your filmic education is lacking, then. _Silence of the Lambs_ is actually the second book by that author with Hannibal in it. The first, which I can't recall the name of (Night of the Somethingorother), was filmed first, with some other less-known actor playing Hannibal. And there are some influential critics who say that Mr Hopkins gave the lesser of the two performances.
