I'm currently reading through the Dune series again. I read them the first time during my first two years of college, about 6-7 years ago. I enjoyed them, but I will say that it seems like Frank Herbert developed a preoccupation with sex in his later years...the last three of the Dune books, particularly the last two (Heretics of Dune and Dune: Chapterhouse) contained some very, well, explicit descriptions. I may not read those again, simply because I don't think that level of...erm...detail is necessary in a novel.

One really neat thing though is that Herbert's son Brian has teamed up with Kevin J. Anderson to write some new Dune books. I've read House Atreides and it was interesting, and House Harkonnen just came out. I've checked it out from the library but not read it yet. You might want to read those two books first, since they take place chronologically before Dune.
