Dune is probably the best of the six by Frank Herbert. The other five are less fascinating, but worth reading if you find yourself intrigued by the "universe" that Herbert imagined and created in his books.
As I said before, Herbert's son Brian has co-written two new Dune books thus far with the help of accomplished sci-fi writer Kevin J. Anderson. They take place *prior* to the first book, so you might find them interesting, to see how the events that took place in Dune came into being.
