Tyler guessed right, in his reply. It's a Biblical name. There were twelve tribes of Israel, named after Joseph's brothers and sons (hence the appearance of Issachar alongside Joseph in "Technicolor Dreamcoat", as Tyler pointed out). I always liked some of the names of those tribes, such as Issachar, Asher, and Reuben. When I first got on the Internet one of the things I did the most was chat on IRC, and I most often alternated between Issachar and Asher as my nicknames. I also give myself those nicks when playing computer games that allow you to name your character. So by the time I became a "Rinky-dink" :-) this past summer, the nickname was already long-established.

There's a verse of Scripture that describes the men of the tribe of Issachar as exercising wisdom: they "understood the times, and knew what Israel ought to do." I like that verse; it's one that I'd like to be able to "grow into", as it were.
