Although the previous series entry was subtitled The Final Chapter, another was made, and the series kept going. But is Jason really back? Who cares? Jason or Jason impersonator, ultimately it's all the same. Although this film finally made steps to break away from the tired formula the first four episodes followed rigidly, this still boils down to "a bunch of people get killed." We have no involvement with any of them, and far too many exist just to be killed. The ambiguity of the killer's identity provides the film's only remotely interesting aspect, but the answers, when they come, are unlikely to induce more than a "huh" if that.
