Uh. Why? A quick count of our congressional districts says that three of our five congressional representatives are Republicans. The county went heavily Republican in the recent statewide elections. It is against California law for local elections to be partisan, so I can't say exactly what parties our local leaders belong to, but I notice that the San Diego Republican Party endorses San Diego's mayor and several of the city council members. The city's daily newspaper is pretty firmly Republican.

We may not be New Hampshire (and we're not liable to vote for Buchannon :P) but I wouldn't call San Diego particularly liberal. I'm curious as to why San Diego in particular is perceived as being liberal. No argument that California as a whole is pretty damn left-of-center, but San Diego and Orange Counties are pretty staunchly Republican. L.A. and San Fransisco really swing things quite a bit, since they have so much of the population.
