I'm curious as to why San Diego in particular is perceived as being liberal. No argument that California as a whole is pretty damn left-of-center, but San Diego and Orange Counties are pretty staunchly Republican. L.A. and San Fransisco really swing things quite a bit, since they have so much of the population.

*How* Republican, though? I've always been under the impression that your average California Republican is not the same thing as your average Republican from somewhere else in the country. I've always thought that those who called themselves Republican in California were noticeably (I don't mean significantly, though) to the left of Republican standards?

Again, this is just the impression I've always been given by various media and whatnot out here. You live there. You would know. ;-P
