I'm curious as to why the question! ;)

First-hand stories about the Holy Land are always fascinating. Were there any other obvious differences to living there, besides what happens upon sundown on Saturday?

> and it was really interesting to see how they observe the Sabbath. First of all, everything (all stores) were closed. I wish they did that here. Plus the most funny (I'm not trying to be disrespectful) was that the elevators stopped at every floor because it was considered work to push the buttons. Isn't that cool?

I can see that it's cool in concept, but maybe not so kind in practise. The reason why people are not allowed to push elevator buttons on Sabbath is not because it's "work", but because of the Biblical injunction against starting FIRES on the day of rest. What's this got to do with elevators? Nothing, of course. However somewhere along the line, it was decided that pushing a button to close a circuit could cause an electrical "spark" and THIS is what's forbidden on Sabbath. Never mind that it's highly unlikely that sparking occurs in a modern elevator. The possibility exists, therefore it must be prevented at all costs. And so you have an entire people who become slaves to the letter rather than to the spirit of the Law. :(

While there is much to commend a righteous people who live closely and devoutly according to God's precepts, there is a point where the irrational can take over and begin to interfere with the basics of living.
