One time I was going to cross the street and this giant Mack truck drove by. If I had stepped off the curb a second or two later I would have been hit by the truck and been killed. I was therefore almost killed. Which is really a good thing, since now I know everything there is to know about death (and its nobility) and can tell my children about it twenty-five years from now.
