Using a middle name for a first name can be interesting. I once went to the bank to cash a check that had been made out to William. I endorsed it Howard. The teller said I would have to sign it William. I said, "If you want my legal signature, that's it." She cashed it.
When filling out forms, if they require a first, middle and last name, I leave the first name blank. The next time I see it, there is usually an "NMI" sandwiched between my first and last name. I used to put my middle name in the first name blank, but I decided long ago that I didn't want to leave that much room for the "NMI."
Did you hear about the kid who graduated from high school and they read his name as "John Nmi Jones?" Howard
