gender confusion

It has been said that one of the advantages of communicating on the net is that nobody knows if you are male, female, black, white, old or new. Well, it can be a disadvantage, too. I sometime get the idea that a person is one gender only to find out later(sometimes the hard way) that he/she is the other gender. Part of the problem is that some names can be either one. Other names don't give you a clue, and still others are intentionally deceptive.

Take Chris, for example. I have a grandson named Chris, so I asummed the RinkWorks Chris was male.
Strike one.
Even Sam is a name used by girls sometimes. Chris' dad, my son, is named Sam, but somehow I don't think I've been missled on that one.
Greenjeanz? The one on TV was a man. Strike two.
And then there was Diane. I still don't know what she/he was.(What ever happened to her/him?)
And then there was Dagmar, who used to be... no, that's not right.
Maybe it really doesn't make any difference.
