I have no hard statistics, but I get the feeling that a greater percentage of RinkWorks readers are female than the percentage of female web surfers out there. Possibility this perception is because the percentage of male web surfers and female web surfers is equaling out, when only recently the ratio of men to women on the Internet was something phenomenal, like 10 to 1. But it seems like something about RinkWorks hits home with women. > > I note this with pleased curiosity. RinkWorks was conceived with no particular target demographic in mind, other than whatever the name of the demographic is that shares my own personal interests. It is therefore not very surprising to me that fantasy fans, movie buffs, and so forth have a strong representation. I'm pleased and mildly intrigued that Christians also have a noteworthy representation, in spite of the fact that very little of RinkWorks is explicitly Christian in nature. But women? It's hard enough for me to understand my wife (and I intend no slight to her, however that thought may look in emotionless ASCII) much less women in general and what sorts of online entertainment might appeal to women except insofar as the same sort of entertainment may also appeal to men. > > I wish now that I had included a gender question on the Reader Survey, so I could go back and see where the trends are. For an impromptu survey of the female readers out there: what draws you to RinkWorks, and what keeps you coming back? > > All other comments on this subject are also greatly welcomed.
I'm glad you asked Sam. I think the thing that draws me to Rinkworks is the humor and specifically I am drawn to the forum because there is a chance to speak my mind without being judged by my gender and age. Although, recently pretty much everyone has revealed their gender and age on here but it hasn't been a problem. No derogatory (gnilleps?) remarks are made, and the discussions are clean. Plus the topics are fun.
I honestly think I like this forum for most of the same reasons any one else does, male or female. But I'd like to note that it's a great thing not to be "slapped" in the face with those stupid and degrating ads for web-porn, which I think is a big reason that not quite as many women as men are on the internet.
I also like this forum for one reason you mentioned, that there are some Christians on here. It's not specifically for them, but it's nice to know there are more out there, besides me. Plus the fact that this forum is 'censored' so to speak. I'm not worried about being majorly offended. With the exception of the occasional "Make Money Fast" schemes, there's only good stuff on here. (Note: I loved the way you handled the recent scheme...very funny!)
I hope that answers your question.
