Rear Window

Hrm. Hitchock's Rear Window is probably one of my personal favorite movies and also one of Hitchcock's best. However, it is consistently overlooked when it comes to great movies. I've gotten used to this fact. What annoyed me was a bit I saw in the IMDB's "Studio Briefing" today that mentioned that a panel that included such well respected people as Martin Scorcese picked Hitchcock's 10 Best Films. I figured that RW wouldn't be first (I firmly expected both Psycho and Vertigo to be ahead, even though to me they are inferior movies). When I'd read the Top 5 and it still wasn't there I was upset. A few seconds later when I had finished the list I read it twice more to make SURE I hadn't missed it. Yup, you guessed it -- RW didn't make the cut. Apparently, Frenzy (at number eight) is better. Frenzy. Come on people!

A public service notice to those who haven't seen Rear Window: go rent it. An interesting fact about it is that even though it's been spoofed endlessly in pop culture, you probably don't know how it ends simply because the spoofs only seem to take the set up and not the follow through (unlike Psycho, which I think pretty much anybody raised today over the age of like 15 knows tons about without actually seeing the movie). Rear Window is still one of the most suspensful movies ever made, and it doesn't rely on a bunch of graphic violence and lame tricks to keep you on edge.

Ste "Additional trivia note: Hitch's cameo is rather hard to catch in this one" phen
