Roger Ebert wrote an essay on this Top 10 list, which is extremely well written, as usual. The link is below. I'd like to add my own objections to the omission of "Rebecca" (if not "Strangers On a Train" to boot). "Rear Window" may not be appreciated as Hitchcock's single greatest work, as it should, but I think "Rebecca" is even *less* appreciated than it should be -- it's only one of the most satisfying mysteries ever filmed, but it's arguably the best film noir, and came a few years before film noir even emerged as a genre.
