Last night I met an old friend for the first time in 2 or 3 years. I knew that she was avoiding the world, but I discovered that she was also specifically avoiding me.

I had tried to 'phone her a few times, and had stayed in contact with her boyfriend, who hadn't suggested that there was any reason to worry. But last night she told me that she had needed a friend, and that I should have put more effort into getting in touch with her.
