I was quite amused when I lived in Virginia (not even as far south as I could have been) during a couple of my high school years -- and school was postponed or cancelled whenever we got a light dusting. I also noticed how the drivers didn't adjust for the changed road conditions.

I know what you mean. I got caught in Bedford, Mass. when a 6-inch snowfall came in April. My sister drove me to Logan airport, about 40 miles, and I didn't see a single accident. My flight was scheduled to leave at about 10 AM, but didn't get off until noon, because they couldn't keep the runways cleared. My sister got home okay without incident.

If I lived up there, my four-cylinder, five-speed would have four-wheel drive. Down here, only a tiny fraction of the people who drive four-wheel drive vehicles really need it. It's an ego thing.
