That's not the worst... Think about french, where EVERY noun as a gender. My orientation class book was full of stuff like Chirurgien(ne), Contre-maître mécanicien / Contre-maitresse mécanicienne, etc...

Québec got it really hard. You have to put the little disclaimer everywhere... And most job offer in the papers end with something to the effect of 'Company XXXX practice equity hiring' and stuff.

They also changed the Human Right Charter from 'Droits de l'homme' (Men's right, but men is used here as a general term for human. IE, in history class, 'Men discovered fire around 40 000 before JC'.) to 'Droits de la personne' or Person's right. I don't see much difference, but the French governement (IE, France) made a statement to the effect that it was wrong, a year or so back.

So yes, it's very annoying. But I wouldn't have imagined a woman getting harrassed about that.
