I do it kinda like Marvin did, I think. I just
do it backwards, starting with the largest
digits. That way I can write the numbers down
in the right order, instead of backwards, like a
COMMIE. I have all the one-digit multiplied by
one-digit things subconciously memorized or
something like that, so it's easy. And addition
and subtraction don't require thought, as far as
I can tell. Give me a couple numbers and I add
them up. Unless there are digits that need
carried, in which case I think about it for a
split second. There are probably lots of better
ways to do the things I do, but that'd be
cheating. Like what Jezzika said. I wouldn't
do it like that, just because it's too easy.
For more complicated things like calculus and
things like that, I rarely visualize actual
shapes. And most of the time I don't visualize
the actual shape, but a motion that could
outline the important parts of it. Actually,
that's probably why I work with higher
dimentional shapes a lot. I don't *think* it's
possible to actually visualize a 4D sphere for
example, but if you just see the important parts
as invisible streaks of movement, it's not too
hard.
