I would like to recommend the "Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R. R. Martin. Probably the finest high fantasy series written in recent years. If you're a fan of Pratchett, I would also suggest Robert Rankin whose comic fantasy (albeit contempory fantasy) has been described as being what Pratchett should be. I am also currently recommending Jack Vance's "Tales of the Dying Earth" to anyone who will listen.

If you're also into science fiction, you sould look out for Peter F. Hamilton and Jon Courtney Grimwood. Both excelent authors.
