It's just occurred to me that this trilogy has the one quality that makes a book a good summer read: length.

I understand the paperback of each book is published in two volumes. I have the hardbacks and they easily average 1200 pages each.

I only wish the ending hadn't been so badly rushed. I can see his editor saying "A fourth book? If you do that, it'll never end!", so 500 or 600 pages of material got condensed down to 100.
