Do you still read Stephen King's new books? He's never been my type of writer, and I wonder about someone who can churn out books as quickly as he does.
Phillip Pullman's books are incredible. The "His Dark Materials" trilogy blew my mind. Very complex with well-developed characters.

Actually, I've never heard of those authors, except for Frank Herbert. I sort of liked the original Dune, but the characters were annoying. Too intelligent without enough personality.
A good book is "A Confederacy of Dunces." I'm reading it now. It's a long book.
