For those of you who suspect that I am crazy, I offer this proof:
I went to a yard sale on Friday and bought a Maytag washing machine engine. It's a gasoline engine used to power washing machines in areas that don't have electricity. They were built from 1916 to 1952. Most are about 1/2 horsepower. What possible use could I have for such an engine?
None, if you mean practical use. I will probably restore it, repaint it in the original colors and display it alongside my old-time motorscooters. I still need to do some research about the exact age and model. And I will have to check on the availability of parts. But that's the fun of owning something old and useless. And don't knock it if you ain't tried it. :-)
