Has any one else seen the first epsiode of the new series based off of notes by the late Gene Rodenberry, Andromeda? Well I did. I will now give my thoughts on it. I don't think I gave anything away, but here is a

any way

The story is really standared sci-fi, a Captain from the highth of the Systems Commonwealth (a tri-galaxy spaning, centuries old version of the Federation) winds up 300 years farther in the future when the Commonwealth has collapsed. Some scavager/treasure hunters wake him up. Yadda yadda yadda. Oh yeah, the ship has a sentient artificial intelligence.

OK, so most of the plot of the series is some what a group of sci-fi cliches. But the characterization is good. Captain Dylan Hunt (played the Kevin Sorbo) seems nicely heroic. My favortie two character are from the treasure hunters, Harper and Trance.

Harper is enginer, techno guy. Totally insain, totally enthusiatic about technology and his own tech abilities.

Trance is cool. Some what of an air head in a funny way. Easily distracted by 'pretty' things. Also she is very cute and has lavander colored skin.

Best line "He was like some kind of Greek God" spoken by Harper describing Captain Hunt.

For a first episode of a new sci-fi series I have to say it is very promising. The special effects are excellent, including the creature effects. While not as convincing as some of the elabortate make-up jobs on Farscape, most of the aliens we saw in this first episode go a good way beyond the 'alien-cranial-ridges' that so populate the Trek series. There was a bug-piolet, a genetically enginered human with spikes on his arms, two diffrent ugly hariy aleins, and the lavender skinned girl (who is either and alien, geneticalt enginered, hybrid, or something else).

I look forward to seeing how this series progresses. B+
