I dunno. I've read the original message, and all of the responses to date, and I think what LaZorra was trying to say, was:

Valentine's day sucks.

That's not to say that the holiday has to be abolished - I actually never got that impression from her message. It just... sucks, is all.

And, I think I have to agree with her. The holiday is probably a little more fun if you actually have a valentine... but for much of the rest of the population, every single rose, heart-shaped balloon, dorky card, etc., just goes to show you what you can't participate in.

The Greeks had 3 words for love (that I know of):
- Eros: Romantic
- Philos: Friendship / Family
- Agape: Selfless

Valentine's day is definitely all about eros. Trying to play along with the traditions, but substituting the eros for philos, just doesn't work.

When I came home from work on Valentine's day, I put on some Nat King Cole, did my homework, and then tried hard not to think about Valentine's day. It didn't work.

> Then there's the whole "oh my gosh I don't have
> a boyfriend/girlfriend/cat who loves me I suck
> and so does my life" syndrome. I know and know
> of so many people who get all depressed because
> Valentine's just reminds them that they want
> "someone" and don't have a him/her (usually a

I had that whole "oh my gosh I don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend/cat who loves me I suck and so does my life" thought run through my head (only without the "oh my gosh" bit at the beginning). But then I realized: I don't get depressed. I get even.

So I am hereby declaring March 1st to be Bachelor's Day.

No longer will the unvalentined have to suffer through another stupid Cupid day, without realizing that TEH DAY is coming! Viva la revolution! Viva la revolution! (I haven't thought much past the revolution bit... but then again, who does?)

Now, all we need to do is invent some sort of really unique traditions, maybe even a new type of food (like Fizzy Eggs & Cheese) to go along with it. Some way to celebrate the freedom of being a bachelor... perhaps not as carnal as a bachelor's party, and yet not as child-like as Easter. Then we'll have something to look forward to on Cupid Day.

Any suggestions?

----- Note: After writing the above, I did a Google search, and found that there actually is a Bachelor's day in some countries, only it's on Feb 29th, and it has something to do with marriage proposals on a leap year. Therefore, I propose that we rename that one to "Ball & Chain Day", and let March 1st rightfully claim the name as a celebration of bachelorhood.

(To all the bachelorettes out there: try to come up with a synonym for "bachelorette" that has fewer syllables, and then you can have your own day.)
