Another related tactic is to work for a certain amount of time and then give yourself a break, also for a certain amount of time, and alternate. It helps a lot to have some way of timing, so that you don't have to worry about losing track of how long you've had a break and can easily see how much longer you need to work. You could start out working for ten minutes and having a five minute break, for example, and try working up to a ten minute break every hour. Work is easier to manage in chunks and rewards of any sort can help the feelings of discouragement that come with things like this.
