I'm in a similar line as you and grem, here. Started off with churchgoing, and then left it. After I became disaffected, we happened to move away somewhere else, and my parents didn't feel like driving me to church anymore (they're not Christian), so I kind of dodged that whole part of it, and I don't think I could offer much help on that part.

As for the debate, this may not apply to you, but I know that after my departure, I was in a fairly polarized state of mind for a little bit with regards to my opinions of religion. Over time that's balanced out a bit and I've come to a more understanding place. I've found that Christianity can be fairly interesting to think about, from an atheist/agnostic view. But before, I think I was the kind of person a little too eager to get into a religious "debate", and most likely for the wrong reasons. Again, this might have been just me, and you could be perfectly well-adjusted. Just a word of caution.
