It makes sense for devices that incorporate mobility to increase in stability as technology develops. Contrast this with cell phones, with their five thousand parts that are all removeable and none of which are thicker than a credit card. My cell phone lives with a rubber band around its middle to keep the two halves together. I do realize that if it hadn't been dropped twice a week since it's been in my posession it would not be as structurally unsound as it is currently.

However. At work recently I was assigned the task of destroying some old cell phones and beepers. I don't know what year the phones were from, but I remember the style as being pretty much from after phones had made the leap from car to portable. Very different from today, they had one size (big) and one color option (black). None of this cute customization crap. I don't have a lot of strength but I did go after them with a hammer and a letter opener, and they were very, very hard to physically destroy.
