yep, that's true. They normally try to pass it off by having your first object 'trigger' your discovery of the next object. But sometimes, they just throw continuity to the wind, and just have an object "appear" as if by magic.

I like to think there is a remote linking of trees, whereby some trees have discreet cameras, and some have delivery hatches. When one tree detects you've picked something up, the other ejects it just like that! But how do they control all this? The obvious answer is computers (well, the obvious answer is "it's not real", but computers is the fun answer). There is a supercomputer located in the dungeon of the spooky castle, but no-one is ever allowed to go down there. The computer regulates which objects should be availible when, and places them accordingly.

That's why so many of these games are set in spooky forests with creepy castles. Another very popular place for such equipment is walls, with the computer in the basement.

uhh... I'm waffling again aren't I?
Maybe we'll never know. I would post another strange thing here, but this post is getting a bit long. I'll post another one later.
