the missing pictures/ dealing with trash

I've been saving my pictures on both the old and new computer. The old one has been hidding them and the new one has a picture program that won't let me brouse in to attach a picture to email or send it to a web page.
But today, I found out where the old rig is hidding them. I was roaming around in Word and found a document that had the right date for the last set of pictures. So I clicked on one of them and all I got was page after page of computer gibberish. Does that mean the pictures are not there, or is there some way I can bring them up in Adobe so they look like pictures?
This new 'puter uses "Picture it!" I can now work with the pictures a little bit now, but I can't get them out over the net. Sometimes I can print one. Am I missing a step?
I have another totally unrelated computer problem. Where can I find the "trash" button on my email? I use Outlook Express and someone told me that if you click "trash" instead of "delete" you don't ever get that same spam again. I get the same ones over and over.
All suggestions appreciated. Howard
