So I clicked on one of them and all I got was page after page of computer gibberish. Does that mean the pictures are not there, or is there some way I can bring them up in Adobe so they look like pictures?

By "computer gibberish" do you mean "lots of random characters, including all manner of accented chracters"? If so, I know what's going on; since you're using Word, which is used to edit files containing text, it thinks the file you're trying to view is text, rather than a picture. Word therefore interprets the ones and zeros of the image file as representing letters, but since they represent colors rather than letters, the letters that Word thinks it sees in these ones and zeros are gibberish. (There are 24 ones and zeros per color, and 8 per letter; Word assumes the first 8 ones and zeros represent one letter, such as "ÿ"; the next 8 represent another, such as "T"; and the last 8 represent another, such as "[".) The solution, of course, is to use a program such as Adobe, which is designed to view images, instead of Word, which is designed to view text. To view it in Adobe, simply make a note of what directory you found it in when you were using Word, and look for that directory in Adobe, and open it there.

Of course, if by "computer gibberish" you mean that there appear to actually be some computer-related words in there, there's probably been an error and the "gibberish" is attempting to alert you to the error. Maybe post an excerpt if that's the case?

> This new 'puter uses "Picture it!" I can now work with the pictures a little bit now, but I can't get them out over the net. Sometimes I can print one. Am I missing a step?

From what you've said, I'm guessing you're trying to upload images using Picture It; this makes me curious -- does Adobe have uploading capabilities, and were you using Adobe to upload pictures with the old computer? If so, my guess is the people who made Picture It just didn't include a way to upload files with it, which wouldn't be surprising since I don't know of any graphics programs that include such a feature. Try using an FTP program to upload files from that computer. (Some ISPs, such as AOL, offer FTP capabilities, and there are other non-ISP FTP programs out there, though I don't know enough about them to recommend anything; some image-hosting websites, including the one I use, also allow you to upload files using a form on the website itself).

Of course, my guess could be completely wrong...

> I have another totally unrelated computer problem. Where can I find the "trash" button on my email? I use Outlook Express and someone told me that if you click "trash" instead of "delete" you don't ever get that same spam again. I get the same ones over and over.

I don't have much experience with the email feature of Outlook or Outlook Express, so I can't say much about it. That said, doing a search on Outlook Express's help file for "trash" returns no results, so I'm inclined to agree with Ciaran that there isn't one, and that you need to stop getting computer advice from the person you mentioned... ;-)

Lucky "returning to the thing about interpreting image files as text... I have actually considered hiding messages in image files in this manner, by manipulating the text that shows up when you view the image file in Word or Notepad." Wizard
