Outlaws - Expository stuff

Okay, so, I read the post written about some of the inside jokes and stuff, but I'm curious about certain other characteristics of the game that I don't THINK were addressed in the ingame text, though I could be wrong, and just skipped over it.
for instance...
Oh and there are maybe sort of spoilers, so here's some obligatory spoiler space, but not much. Be warned.
The old sheriff is gone, and you come in to take his place, and there's the gun cabinet, but it's locked, and you have no idea where the key is. Where'd the key go?
Why did Garston want to talk to the sheriff about Piano Wire?
What exactly is "cutting"? Like, you have a cutting horse, but I have no idea what that is. I think that was the term. I'm not an equestrianic person, so I don't know horsey terms.
What exactly transpired between Sheriff McAlister (was that his name?) and the player that would make the Shurf not like him anymore?
What happened to Delhi Shanks after the story? Last we knew, he was sitting in the desert. Did he just wander off back to Lynville?
Anyone, just some curious expository questions. If there's an answer, cool, if not, then, I'll try not to let it eat away at me until I go crazy and start shooting people with paintball guns.
Great game. Thanks!
