If you ask me, the problem is that we all know each other too well and feel increasingly reluctant to risk hurting or annoying someone by creating a current affairs or serious political or philosophical thread, and we don't want to start threads about interesting things that have happened to us because we've all got LiveJournals for each other to read, and we don't want to start in-joke threads because nobody else will get them, and there are memolists to talk about things like cool dreams and food and movies and music, and instant messaging to talk to someone about a specific subject.
