a boy named Sue

Johnny Cash used to sing a song about a boy named Sue. It seems that Sue's father named him that because it would make him tough and teach him to stand up for himself. But what about real people who have wrong-gender names?

Darrel Waltrip, famous race driver, married a girl named Stevie. I've heard her called that so long, it sounds fine to me.

My aunt was named George. Actually, that was her middle name. Her mother's last name was George before she married Grandpa.

I went to school with a girl named Marshall. In those days they named girls Mary, Debbie, Susan, or Brenda. Now it is common for a girl to be Morgan, or who knows, maybe even Marshall.

I also knew a girl named Bill. OK, her name was Billie Jean, but we all called her Bill.

My kids went to school with a girl named Charlie.

Names can be a pain. I remember having to fight a few times because my first name rhymes with coward or because my last name rhymes with girl.
