We've been adopted.

OK, bird watchers, we need some help. We've been adopted and we don't know what to do.
I was wandering around the yard this morning when I heard a bird noise. The tone of it said that the bird was in trouble. I walked around a shrub and there was a chicken-sized bird, walking slowly across the yard beeping in anguish like it wanted its mama.
But it was no chicken. The first thing I noticed was the small black topknot on top of its head. The feathers were long and splochy brown. It had big feet and stood up like a wild turkey. In fact it looked like a turkey built to a 1/3 scale. Maybe it *is* a turkey. It wandered around the house for a while, inspected the deck, and even walked the top of the deck rail. Yes, it flies well enough to get up on the rail. In fact, it now sits on a window sill on our carport, which is about 5 feet above ground level.
I saw it eat a couple of bugs in a flower bed, but it ignored corn from the garden.
Could this be a turkey? It seems very tame, and doesn't get skittish when I am within six feet of it. Yes, I took it's picture.
What is this thing that has adopted us? Howard
