What country is that, Herx? In some parts of the world the market place (el mercado?) is very much like American flea markets. That is, you can by almost anything there. I spent some time in such a market it Central America and it seemed to be working very well. Thursday was market day, and if you didn't go then, you might not get to buy what you needed until Thursday rolled around again. They didn't have shopping malls and only a few stores.
Now about garage sales. I used to call them that until one day I realized that I could make the poster-board-and-felt-tipped-marker signs a lot faster if I called my sale a Yard Sale. I've been calling them that ever since.
The worst Yard Sale I ever had netted just $8, but I've topped $300 a few times. I like the part where I get to talk to strangers, and some of them turn out to be my former students who have grown up. I guess my secret is out. I don't do it just for the money. Howard
