I saw The Sting as a teenager, on TV. Dad was in graduate school, we didn't go to the movies. It was edited for television. What I remember was that it seemed horrible life for a little girl, and she thought it was normal. That was part of the story.
As a parent, the movie ratings are usefull---
"No, you can't see that, it's R!" Period. End of discussion.
It works better than "No, it's too scary(boring)..."
"I won't be scared(bored)."
"You'll get scared(bored) and want to leave in the middle."
"No I won't."
"It's Saturday, no matinee price. I'm not paying 7.00 plus 9.50 to see the first part of a movie 'cause you get scared(bored) and we have to leave."
"I'll use my own money."
"I thought you were saving up for a cell phone."
"That's stupid, Why would I want a cell phone?"
