Now I am completely confused, which is a normal condition for me. Possibly I am not up to date, but I would normally put the period inside the quotes. I also believe the question mark, exclamation point, comma, and period all follow the same rule. How would you do it if the quotation is at the beginning of the sentence?

"Put the quotation at the beginning," he said.

Well, that's the way I would do it. I haven't followed your link yet, but having gotten up too early this morning, I am too sleepy to do it now. Tomorrow maybe.
