Admittedly, Coming To America is probably the weakest of the three, but browsing his filmography on the IMDb reveals even more titles than I remembered that I couldn't bring myself to see and wound up getting pretty abhorrent reviews. The guy's got talent, but it's not in picking scripts, that's for sure. Has *any* other actor with talent in the first place been in such a high number and percentage of duds?
I agree that he can't pick a script to save his life, but you *liked* Coming to America? There's something wrong with that. It was just excoriable.
I've always thought that the three best Eddie Murphy movies were Trading Places, The Golden Child and Harlem Nights. I don't think I'm counting the Beverly Hills Cop movies there, but I'm not entirely sure.
Strangely, I compiled that top three a couple of years ago after a charavter in a sit-com described Mulan as "Possibly Eddie Murphy's third best movie". Which started me thinking about exactly how few good movies he'd been in...
