I was never able to understand why it would take so freaking long for anybody living within a reasonable commute of civilisation to find some sort of job. Now that I've been looking for work for three weeks, and have had only one (one, count it!) response to the bazillion applications I've sent out, I am forced to admit that various people here were right, and the US job market really does suck.

What you might want to do is check out the government sector, Brunnen-G. I've heard that one out of every six jobs in the U.S. is related to the government in some way. And it is extremely stable. As a matter of fact, it might be TOO stable. It is nigh on impossible to have an incompetant employee fired in the government sector.

Also, with our government being a little hawkish towards Iraq, the Civil Service probably NEEDS employees right now, what with all the deployments going on....
