Agreed. With both reasons you gave. Now, the
slightly expanded role she had in film one
didn't gall me *too* much, but I'm kind of
nervous about film two. If there was anything
that could "ruin" the film for me, it would be
throwing Arwen in where she doesn't belong.
It's one thing to omit or combine characters
and events, like replacing Glorfindel with
Arwen. Totally different is the explanding of a
character and throwing in new events that the
author never wrote or intended.

A friend and I were speculating on how Arwen
might be involved in The Two Towers, and he
pointed out that in the book, Narsil (the broken
sword of Elendil) was reforged and renamed
Anduril in Imladris, and Aragorn took it with
him when the Fellowship set out. He was
given a new sheath for it in Lothlorien. All of
this was missing from film one. So perhaps
Arwen's part will simply be to bring Aragorn
his sword, and then WHOOPS gets caught up
in the battle? Who knows?

Well, some of you who've already seen the
movie do.
